MOLISE
GEOGRAPHY AND DEMOGRAPHY
Molise is located in the south of Italy and is 4.438 squared kilometres. It has 320,838 units with a 72,29 in./sqkm. density. There are 231,711 residents in Campobasso, the capital, and 89,127 in Isernia with an increase of residents mainly due to a rate of migration abroad amounted to 5.9 per thousand inhabitants.
INFRASTRUCTURES
Under III "Accessibility" POR ERDF 2007/13 of the regional administration has given priority to the implementation of the road system connecting platforms multimodal. The total number of available resources for an amount of € 36,578 mln which will be designed to maximize the positive links with regional production. The "Improved connections to the platforms is closely linked to implementation of the motorway link: A1-A14, Termoli - San Vittore, which involves the attention of neighboring regions such as Lazio, Campania, Puglia el'Abruzzo. The Bretella connecting highway A1 - A14 (Route Termoli - San Vittore), axis fundamental connection with the European corridors, was included in the program strategic infrastructure of July 2004 (Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport -- attached to the DPEF 2005-2008), the Contract Program decade 2003-2012 and Anas in the three years 2006-2008, was confirmed in Resolution No. CIPE 130/06, with Upgrade to June 2008, is contained in Annex Amenities at DPEF 2009 -- 20,113 for the stretch-San Vittore Bojano.
The intervention will link the two highways backbone routes (A1 and A14), facilitating the exchange between the Tyrrhenian coast and the Adriatic. Among the infrastructure included in the General Framework Agreement signed in 2004, highlights in the water starting the work - which should end by 2009 - in the water 'Molise Region (€ 92,960 mln) and Molise Right' (€ 30,470 mln) and the definition of the final design for intervention on the 'Irrigation of Basso Molise with Biferno waters of rivers and Fortore (€ 75,000 mln).
ECONOMY
The national GDP increased by 1, 5% (1.8% in 2006), the south has a rate of 0.7% (1.5% in 2006), while the center-north is the change was 1.7 percentage points (2.0% in 2006). Molise in 2007 shows an increase of GDP to 0.9%, higher than Southern average. The gross regional output is estimated at 5256.3 million; the pro-capite9 is 19593.60 euro (average Southern 17552.00 euros). In the south, made 100 the national GDP, the national product per capita is Molise third place (75.8%) after one of Abruzzo (81.9%) and Sardinia (77.8%). Also in southern Italy, the area to more intensive poverty (with values exceeding 25%) was represented in 2002 from Campania, Calabria, Basilicata and Molise. A distance four years in 2006 Campania, Calabria, Basilicata and Sicily confirmed the most high incidence of poor families. Molise, however, has left the grouping of the "poorest", thanks to a decrease of 7.6 points percentage, equal to about 8900 families left the poverty threshold.
Productive sectors
At sectoral level, in Molise the activity in the constructions remained services, which in 2006 had contributed more than 68% of the value added regional, has crossed in 2007, a period of growth less intense than that recorded the previous year. In particular, the Molise shows a negative change in the industry (- 2.02%), and a positive dynamic in the services (+ 2.17%). Agricultural production, however, which accounts for about 5 percent of the value added Regional, has seen a decrease in the value added of 1.28 points of percentage. The regional movement of tourists showed, in 2007, a trend total negative, but this was covered only the Italian component, since that the arrivals of Italian tourists in Molise decreased by 6.7%, after the slight recovery recorded in 2006, compared with a decline in attendance of Italians even more intense (- 15.2%). Opposite to the foreign component, which makes a change significantly positive both arrivals of foreign tourists (51.1%) and attendance (26.3%) failing, however, to offset the reduction in the Italian component.
Exports
In 2007, in Molise, exchanges were equal to 628 million euros (2006: 612 million). The foreign trade data show an increase in the rate of growth of exports (+2.4%) Compared with the previous period (+0.8% in 2006).
LABOUR MARKET
The South reported a rate of activity of 52.4% (2006: 53.2%), a rate employment of 46.5% (2006: 46.6%), an unemployment rate of 11% (2006: 12.2%). In Molise, the second ISTAT28 grew: The employee base of 564 units, equivalent to 0.46% in 2006 (122.356 in 2007, 121,792 in 2006); 2790 of the occupied units, equal to 2.5% in 2006 (112.447 in 2007, 109,657 in 2006); I also declined the job seeker of 2226 units, equivalent to 18.34% at 2006 (9.910 in 2007, 12,135 in 2006), contributing to the decrease of 1.9 points percentage of unemployment rate (from 10% in 2006 to 8, 1% in 2007). Among the southern regions, Molise an unemployment rate above only that of Abruzzo, but lower than all other regions of the south. Also according to ISTAT at branch level was recorded in 2007, a significant increase employment in agriculture (16.96%), a slight increase in the number of employees in the service sector (3.98%), while both in the construction that in the strict sense there was a reduction of employees, by -5.45% and -2.46%. A comparison of the same data over the period 2000-2007, agriculture is what record a higher reduction of employees (-30.65%), hile that of services remains the industry in growth (14.34).
DATA RELATED TO REGIONAL STRUCTURAL FUNDS MECHANISMS
Reference to period 2000/06, UE objective 2; During 2008, the Regional Operational Program has been a consistent Financial progress compared to 2007 as shown by monitoring data updated to 30 June 2008. There are legally binding commitments for a total amount of € 550,792 million and payments amounting to € 424,307 mln equal respectively to 117.32% and 90.38% of total public spending program.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Different actors are involved in research activities in Molise. Molise is home to 2 Universities, the public University of Molise and the private Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. The University was founded in 1982 and currently has 10,000 students across eight faculties. The key challenge for the Region is to mobilise these universities to support the development of new economic sectors around Bio-medical and Bio-technology and Sustainable (Energy and Construction) and enhancement of support for the agricultural industries through the work of the Scientific and Technological Park of Molise. Supporting entrepreneurial development the University of Molise has managed a Start cup competition from 2007 with the aim of promoting research and innovation on the regional territory. Operating alongside the University is the Scientific & Technological Park of Molise. Molise Innovazione is a public-private company devoted to the creation of a network of contacts within universities, research centres, public bodies and entrepreneurial associations. It is a support organisation for companies in the food and agricultural sector that need technical support for the scientific design and construction of industrial research projects or even simple advice. Particular importance is being placed on the work of the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) of University which has a particular remit to: 1) initiate and foster systematic relations with the economic and productive actors, SMEs: 2) promote appropriate forms of cooperation with the business sector to deal with issues related to the technology transfer and support of sin-offs.
THE SMEs SYSEM
At December 31 2007 in Molise, enterprises are 36,135 units, of which involved 32,708. In the period 2000-2007 the number of companies active Molisane was reduced a total of 3.2%, a decrease of 4.86% in the province of Campobasso and an increase of 2.66% in the province of Isernia. At sectoral level between firms confirms the prevalence of companies in the agriculture (down from 2003 to 2007, -36 active units compared to 2006) follow the Sub Trade Organization (almost unchanged compared to 2006), construction (in increase, 36, from the previous year) and industry (the latter in decline for the second consecutive year compared to previous years). In early 2007, the structure of large retailers has organized regional a reduction in the number of years of greatest dimension (supermarkets: 53 in 2006, 45 in 2007; department stores: 9 in 2006, 5 in 2007), resulting in reduced the number of employees over the previous year (-34 units in department stores; -31 units in supermarkets).
